In running this blog there are at least two things I deal with increasingly as time goes on. One is the pipeline: preparing and eking out information in a way that doesn't create sensory overload but that also keeps things fresh and interesting for frequent readers. Sometimes a particular review is posted the same day I visit a restaurant. Other times a review sits in Draft mode for quite some time, being perfectly crafted with tender loving care until it is time to unleash it on the world. The other item is the increasing realization that my "blog" is being seen as an official resource on the subject of Mexican food in Orange County and that many people base their dining decisions on what I write. I started this whole venture when I had some downtime at a contract job and back then it was nothing more than my random musings on tacos and burritos I've had from various places.

The collision of these two ever-present realities recently prompted me to write this new entry on Taco Adobe. You see, I had read somewhere on the Internet that the Taco Adobe in Santa Ana had closed down. Wanting to get a confirmation of that before posting the news here I asked somebody who was in a better position than I to know if that was truly the case and he said he had been told the same thing. So to keep people from going to what I believed to be a closed-down restaurant I amended Taco Adobe - Review #2 with the news that the Santa Ana location had closed down.

Fast forward a month or two and I get an e-mail from the new owner of this location telling me he has lost business because of the misinformation I had posted. Some people who had read the misinformation were driving to the Orange location and just so happened to drive by the Santa Ana location expecting to see a miniature ghost town as they passed it, but instead saw cars in the parking lot. So they stopped in too and found out it had not closed down. The implication is that others may have read the misinformation without serendipitously driving past and finding the misinformation to be false. The customers who did drive past, however, told the new owner that there was some website out there that was giving them negative publicity by telling people they were closed. The new owner got in contact with me and told me that such was not the case and that he had been losing business because of the bad information. I never want to be responsible for somebody losing business, especially because of false information being posted here, no matter how innocently that information was believed.

As Uncle Ben told his nephew Peter Parker(Spiderman): "With great power comes great responsibility." So I announce to the world (does the world extend beyond Orange County?) that Taco Adobe in Santa Ana is still open. It never closed down and it never closed down and reopened. It simply changed ownership without missing a single day of business. Not only that but it is also worth checking out. I loved it and frequent guest reviewer Johnny Automatic loved it. The new owner is renovating the place and will be adding breakfast items soon and is working on making the already great lunch and dinner menu even better. Also, they still have the same two executive chefs that they have had for the last five years.

  • I checked out Tacos Adobe today. It was ok. Carnitas was sort of bland, but the blackened chicken taco was good (not Taco Mesa good). I'll be putting my review up on either my site or possible OC Food Blogs in the next couple days.
