UPDATE: Here's the pics:
NEW UPDATE: Big, in-depth review of Taleo coming soon. Met up with Joy and her partner Carter, and my friend Amy, and her friend Sarah, and had a great dinner and took lots of pictures.
EVEN NEWER UPDATE: This entry all on its own is generating a lot of interest and a lot of people are clicking through to the official 50 Forks site just to see what all the fuss is about. I also just found out Omar mentioned it on his OC in the OC blog. I'll definitely be going back to 50 Forks and if I get any more good pictures I'll post them here. On one of my last visits I got a printout that serves as somewhat of a schedule for dinners for the rest of the current semester. The schedule shows that they have at least an Asian theme and a Mediterranean theme coming up. Lunches don't have a particular ethnic theme. At lunch you can pick from three or four appetizers, three different salads, six or seven main dishes, and three or four desserts and the price can run from maybe $13 to $22. At dinner you pay a fixed price of $14 (excluding whatever drinks you may add) and you get the one appetizer, the one salad, the one main dish, and the one dessert they have that night. There was one time I went for dinner and they were offering two main dishes. Several people I have mentioned this place to have been put off by the fact that it is a student-run restaurant and they wonder if maybe there's something scary about the food but I will say that it is impeccably clean and you can peer right into the kitchen as your food is prepared and everything is overseen by instructors so there's nothing to be afraid of. A meal at 50 Forks is an excellent way to expand your culinary horizons.

Can you tell us what the schedule looks like for the rest of semester -- and most importantly, when does the semester end?
ReplyDeleteDo you know if they only do this during the regular school year, or do they hold classes & dinners over the summer too?
It occurs to me that if the semester ends soon, I'll have to arrange things to go VERY SOON or risk missing it until the fall -- oh no!
I just called and they acted a little clueless. The lunch crew never knows what the dinner crew is doing and they never seem to be able to find out. My sixth sense is telling me it is the Asian or Mediterranean theme tonight, but you probably won't go wrong trying it tonight. I do know that at least all the desserts listed for the rest of the semester looked quite good. I'm sure you could still get in for dinner between 6 and 8. Also, they are only open while school is in session. Whatever it is they are serving tonight they won't have it again for a long time.
ReplyDeleteNice, look forward to trying it. The combination of Asian and Mediterranean is intriguing to me.
