Would totally hate to see you kill this site! I look forward to seeing all of your reviews - I unfortunately rarely get to check out most of the places though. But I live vicarously through you!

I totally understand where you're at though - I've for the most part taken a break from my site as well for the last few months - I just haven't been "feeling it". Hopefully I'll come back to it, but if not, it'll cost me less money per year for the hosting.

Well, I hope you stick in there... if not, I guess I'll still get your tips on twitter. :)

Might still do the Twitter thing. I don't know if I am or am not "feeling" it now. There's still a ton to cover and lots of places I've been looking forward to getting to but, and I recognize that it could be only temporary, but it has been feeling routine and obligatory lately.

BTW, is this Jay as in Jay Ruiz?

I also hope you reconsider. I read every word of your posts when they show up in my RSS feed and I appreciate your hard work. I think there are more like me than you may think.

nope, a totally different Jay P. :)

Sorry to see the site fall out of activity, but I understand the need to do what feels right to you. Thanks for bringing me so many great tips and reviews, Christian! I know I'm not usually a commenter, but I've been a faithful reader of the blog ever since I happened upon it about a year ago.

Thanks again!
Betsy

Sorry to hear the news you may not be updating your blog. I discovered it only a few months ago, and I have looked forward to reading every post and trying some restaurants that I would have never thought of going to. Of course, I do understand a labor of love with little return, is hard to pursue. Thanks for all the effort you have put into this, and hope that you will someday return to highlighting great OC businesses.

For what it's worth, I subscribe to your blog on Google Reader and love to see your new posts. I'm new to Orange, and I know there are TONS of Mexican food places along Tustin. I've actually tried a few that you've reviewed. I wouldn't have tried them without having seen you review.
Thanks for all of your advice and reviews.

You do great work Christian. I thank you for the great reads and appreciate your efforts.

Life is short...do whatever makes you happy.

Don't kill the blog! Just take a break from updating for a while if you need to.

Enjoy your time away and hopefully you will find the desire to return before too long! You are a fresh voice and will be missed.

all the best,

Who cares what others think or that people only go to one page, we are talking about the same internet that 1/2 of the visitors are bots or not even in the USA.

I'd hate to see you stop doing reviews, but do what you have to do. I'd recommend taking a break and just not worrying about it.

Christian, don't go! It's rare to find a Mexican food reviewer who strikes the balance between mainstream chain-restaurant lover and tiresome "authentic" purist. Or, at least, move to Facebook?

I can understand your frustration. I've taken a big break off and on for the past year from my blog as well. We all go through slumps. Don't kill the blog. There's so much valuable information on it. But don't feel obligated to blog all the time, just when you have something to share. Maybe then, you'll rediscover what you loved about it in the first place?

Don't go! Your blog is fantastic! Maybe just take a break, we bet you'll miss it and come right back!

Please don't go. Your blog is the best in Orange County. I truly enjoy reading it every day.

Christian - I've been reading your OC Mexican Food blog for about three years. I think I was redirected from one of the bubble blogs. I have to say that I've really enjoyed your page very much. My family has been treated to some of the best Mexican food in OC because of it. So, hats off to you.

I would only ask you to consider a couple of things before throwing in the towel on this blog. First off, I agree with the comments above. You will always find the typical whiner; it's very easy to complain anonomously about the content rather than being constructive. Your comment about some claiming that such and such place not being "authentic" is just silly. What I love about Mexican food is that it's very hearty fare and Mexican restaurants are fun places to kick back. Who cares about the Foodie police? This is a place where we share our love of food from south of the border and the wonderful wealth of great places to eat. I'm a prof at UCI and I'll give you a tip... focus on the good folks here, not the losers and their negativity. In a sea of faces in a typical lecture, I could choose to be concerned about the kids in the back of the classroom napping, or I could focus on the ones in the front row hanging on my every word. I chose to do the latter.

One other thing... clearly this is not going to be your day job. Get some folks to help pitch in. Perhaps you could have more frequent blogger entries (I'd be more than happy to document some of our meals out... though I'm still nervous about the stares we'll get taking pics of our food!). You can still control the content, just have the contributions go to you before posting.

It's a pretty depressing time for lots of us. Just try to keep the faith and focus on the things that make life enjoyable.

Cheers...

Craig

I've been getting the rss feeds for what feels like several years now, and they will be missed. Thanks again for the labor of love in the form of helpful reviews. I've also been enjoying tweets for some time now. Go for what makes you happy.

ChristianZ said...

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I am going to not think about the whole thing for a while then restrategize and see if I can bring it back in a way that doesn't make my life totally crazy again.

I have tried to get guest bloggers and I have definitely got some good guest reviews (giving all due credit) but have also had many promised and never delivered.

If I bring the site back I hope to have it redesigned in a way that makes it easier for those with an inclination to do a guest review to actually do it and for more readers to leave comments.

I will help blog this site. I enjoy writing and going out to Mexican restaurants to eat! Let me know how/if I can help via my email! Thanks!

I can't contact you via e-mail because you didn't leave an e-mail address and your Blogger profile is "Not Available."

What is your favorite resteraunt in La Habra Fullerton area?? I just found your blog on Bahia!

ChristianZ said...

Hmm, in La Habra I like Senor Campos and in Fullerton I like El Fortin and Matador Cantina. Those are the ones that come to my mind the quickest. Have you seen our entry where I list all the restaurants we have covered? Click here to see it. You can sort it by city. Thanks for your comment.

Hi, the place looks so relaxing and and the foods are mouth watering. Wish I could spend some time there while having a break from work.
