In this season of "Best Of" contests (the Register and Orange Coast recently did theirs and the OC Weekly is still accepting votes for theirs) I thought it'd be time to finally do a Best Of OC Mexican Restaurants contest on this site. What I need from the readers is suggestions as to what categories we should focus on. If you have an idea for a category, and it could be funny (i.e., "Best Cougar Bar") or serious (i.e., "Best Charity Events") but we mostly need food-related ones (i.e., "Best Tofu Tacos on PCH"), please mention it by leaving a comment on this thread. Or, if you're afraid to leave a comment, send me an e-mail at reviews@oxmexfood.com.
Remember we are only trying to nail down the categories right now, not looking for nominations. If you have a nomination to make write it down or make a mental note to yourself for when nominatin' time comes. It may even be that there will be award to go to the winners.
Welcome to my blog for reviewing the best Mexican restaurants and food in Orange County, CA. I intend to cover as many as I can . . . and all sorts and price ranges: "From taco trucks to fine dining . . . and everything inbetween." Newer entries tend to focus on photos more than words. Number of restaurants covered so far: 268+. See The List

Best Elvis Lounge... ;)
There's going to be some stiff competition for the Best Elvis Lounge.
Best Mexican Breakfast! I'm always looking for good breakfast joints. And it doesn't have to be a Mexican restaurant...Molly's Country Kitchen case in point.
Thanks for the category idea. That reminds me that I need to get back to Mollie's.
Hi Christian. I'm always looking for the Best Carnitas :) Good luck with all. I'll have to check out the final list.
Oh, I think I might know who will win for best carnitas.
Best beans.
Beans, the perfect accompaniment to good Mexican food. When they're good, they're a song in my mouth.
When they're bland, they're a disappointment.
When they're canned, so is the restaurant that served them to me.
Six days into this and we're up to three categories! Thanks, Captain.
Oh, wait, I guess we're actually up to four.
Here's another one, and I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned: Best chiles rellenos.
The tag line under my name on my Yelp account says it all:
"In search of the best chile relleno in the world...."
That's a good one.
