Best Breakfast Burrito in Irvine

No surprise to longtime readers but I am always analyzing the traffic for this site in many different ways. What has surprised me is how often people search for information on the "best breakfast burritos in irvine," with similar searches for other OC cities rarely turning up at all. Why would that one city be the most popular one out of all Orange County? I still don't know the answer but if anybody has any insight let me know.

I'm not even much of a burrito guy but recently set out to try all the breakfast burritos in Irvine I could. My quest may never end (as with the overall quest of this entire blog) but I'll update this entry every time I try a new contestant. And let me just say that I don't care where the breakfast burrito comes from. It doesn't have to come from a "Mexican" restaurant per se; it can come from any place that sells food and also happens to have breakfast burritos on the menu. So here's pictures (and possibly descriptions and comments) of the burritos I have come across so far.

I can't remember what this breakfast burrito was called. Las Fajitas has three or four to choose from but they no longer have an official website because, as they told me, nobody ever looked at it.

I already wrote about this burrito in an entry on the breakfast at the La Sirena Grill in Irvine. It can be read by clicking on the 'la sirena grill' label at the end of this entry.

My comments: nobody remembers that Taco Bell used to have a Country Breakfast Burrito with gravy in it. Now Taco Bell doesn't but Carl's does.

My comments: This was an okay breakfast burrito. The interesting thing about it is that they serve it to you open-faced then you can roll it up yourself.

My comments: Similar to the machaca burrito but maybe a little better

On my previous visits to Las Fajitas Grill I always had mixed feelings and I could never quite put my finger on why. After thinking about it for a while the best I can figure is that all the individual components of a meal there seemed fine on their own but they never blended and digested right. I'll freely admit that that is my own experience though and that I may not even be articulating the matter well. Upon finding out that they serve breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays I thought it'd be best to give them a try then and see if things would be different. Thankfully they were. From their extensive and tempting breakfast menu I picked the Eggs Benedict del Mar, two eggs slightly runny and some spinach greens served with Hollandaise sauce over a toasted croissant, with fruit and breakfast potatoes on the side, plus a twisty little orange slice. What a way to start the day. Everything did blend well and it was good enough to make me want to go back and try some more breakfast items. And it helped that I had a "20% Off Entire Bill" coupon with me.

Last time I reviewed them I gave them a shaky three Speedy Gonzales rating at lunch time and I'm going to upgrade them now to a solid three and a half Speedy Gonzales rating for their breakfast:

Entree: Seafood Combo
Drink: Guava Jarritos w/ lime

Okay, I thought it was bad last weekend when I was backed up with three entries to write but now I have five entries to post. They may come hot and heavy or they may come slow and steady.

Las Fajitas is a place I tried once in 2002 then again in 2004 and the food just never sat well with me. This time there seemed to be a little bit of improvement. At their cash register they have a computer monitor that's flashing pictures. Every time I see it I get the urge to check my e-mail but it's really just flashing pictures of some of their food. It might sound silly but it works great for somebody like me who has to see what they are getting beforehand. And it influenced my decision today because as soon as I saw the Seafood Combo I ordered it. It came with some salmon, mahi, and shrimps on a skewer with loads of tasty barbecued veggies. I forgot to bring my darn coupn with me so I might go again soon and try out their breakfast (which they only have on Saturdays and Sundays).
