We've got James here checking in with his fourth review, this time of Los Gallos in Placentia
Today at 7:15pm I went to Los Gallos restaurant at 1667 Orangethorpe Ave. in Placentia, CA. I went with my wife, son and mother. The salsa was a little too spicy for me, but they gave us plenty of it (2 cups). They also gave us plenty of crispy chips that were warm but a little stale tasting. Later they brought out some salsa that they said was mild, for my wife, and it was warm, had no chunks at all in it and tasted like soup. My wife got a beef taco and pork tamale combination plate. She said it was good. My mother and I got Chile Rellenos. The breading, cheese and sauce on mine were super soft and almost melted in my mouth, but the chile was a little tougher than I thought it'd be. I wished my Chile Relleno was twice as big because it was so good. This place has bean and cheese tacos for only $1.00 that are plain but very good. They seemed to have scores of beer signs around, and other people there seemed to be ordering margaritas and beer. Since I don't drink, I don't care, but others might want to know about it. Based on the Chile Relleno, I'd lean toward giving Los Gallos 3½ Speedys, but I think that 3 Speedys would better represent their entire menu.

My wife and I have been frequenting Los Gallos since we moved into the area ten years ago. We have always enjoyed the food served there and everything they do serve is made fresh. Nothing is out of a can, even the enchilada sauce which is made from scratch everyday. The chili rellenos isn't made with breading, it is dipped in egg like it's supposed to be, and it's the best I have tasted compared to some other O.C. Mexican restaurants. The chips and salsa that is brought to the table after you are seated is always fresh and never stale tasting, and the salsa is mild for delicate palates. Their tacos are great. My wife prefers the ground beef while I lean toward the shredded beef version. Their burritos range from the basic bean & cheese to a whopping Super Gallo that you can barely finish. If you want to have Mexican food that is as close to authentic as you can get, you need to give this restaurant a try. It is quite a bit better than the Mexican restaurant chains that everybody seems to think is "real" Mexican food. My wife loves the food there. And by the way, she's Mexican so she knows what real Mexican food is and isn't. And this place serves it well.
My wife and I have been frequent guests of Los Gallos, run by an authentic Mexican lady, Juanita. This is real Mexican food, nothing frozen or canned. On busy nights service can be a little slow, but that is the beauty of eating out to enjoy time with friends or family. I have never had anything bad and whenever friends or colleagues come from out of town this is the place to go. Did I mention the price, dare to compare with a "chain" Mexican restaurant, you will find the food at Los Gallos excels, the value, about half the cost of the "chains".
Moved to the area and happened to find this place. We went for lunch. Food was good! Service was not, several times had to ask for something from two waitress. Guacamole was brown, plate cracked our food was on and order was wrong and we did not get our food all together. Then we even got someone else's bill and credit card. We may still go back, overall food was good.
Hopefully they are not so scatterbrained next time.
